Us sanctions boost Chinese semiconductors: The digital FTC870 comes to the fore
Release Time:2023-10-20 9:39:44

As the United States increases its efforts to control the development of advanced semiconductors in China, domestic semiconductor manufacturers are also trying to break through the relevant pressure. According to foreign media reports, the latest server processor developed by Chinese server processor manufacturer Phytium can reach 3 GHz, which has advantages over AMD's Zen3 architecture EPYC processor, and can further develop in the Chinese market.

The report pointed out that Feiteng processors in the Chinese market has been cultivated for more than 10 years. The company started with the old SPARC architecture and will then shift its focus to the ARM camp, hoping to achieve high performance and a more stable ecosystem goal, which continues to hold a certain market share in the Chinese market.

Feiteng processors have recently made significant progress in the development of new generation products. However, the company expects to make significant progress in the coming years, especially in areas ranging from servers to desktops and then embedded products. The company recently clarified its future development at the Semiconductor Application Innovation Forum 2023, with the aim of developing new products to compete with market products.

According to the company's official performance data, Feiteng processors are preparing for the release of the next generation of server processors named FTC870. The processor offers a significant 20% performance improvement over the previous generation FTC860. The FTC870 was previously tested in SPEC CPU2017, a widely used server processor testing software.

According to the test data, the server processor can compete with the ARM Neoverse N1, and even compete with the Neoverse N2 in some scenarios. What's more, the chip has an edge in competition with AMD's Zen 3 architecture processors. This is because the FTC870 server processor, which has a pulse speed of 3 GHz, can compete with the AMD EPYC 7443 when it reaches a maximum pulse speed of 4 GHz.

The report further emphasized that the results obtained by the Feiteng processor are indeed a breakthrough for the Chinese market, which has been unable to take advanced servers for a long time under U.S. government sanctions. Also because of the severe sanctions of the United States, it has promoted the development of China's domestic equipment, and its Feiteng FTC870 civilian server processor is a good example. Although, the data released by the Feiteng processor is correct to be confirmed, because this is the official statement, compared with the real application of the processor, its results are usually different. This also represents the next Chinese market how to position, and accept the key to some processors.
